Fly fishing at Orvis Fly Fishing School or local lakes / rivers is the other attraction. Lake St. Catherine and surrounding lakes are a delight for serious fishermen with a challenge in winters.
The Lake St. Catherine Country Club, right in Wells, offers an 18-hole golf course and club house, open to public. There are numerous other golf courses within driving distance, such as Castleton, Vermont and Whitehall, NY, about a 30 - 40 minute drive. Two PGA (18-hole) championship courses are about an hour's drive: Killington's Geoffrey Cornish-(designed par 72) course and the Golf Digest award-winning Green Mountain National Golf Course. Most courses are open mid-May through October.
Vermont is known for numerous hiking trails and is a hikers delight. Guests may hike the smaller hills on the property or the long Appalachian Trail including the Robert Frost Trail in Middlebury.
The "Hidden Valley Farm", is central to all the major Western Vermont ski areas -- Bromley, Killington, Stratton, Pico, Magic and Okemo. All are about 30-60 minutes away. The nearest is Bromley at about 25 minutes. Stratton and Killington are about 45 minute drive. Those skiing in Killington or Pico often stop in Rutland for dinner at a wide variety of available restaurants en-route back to the Hidden Valley. Those skiing Bromley or Stratton often choose to have dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants in Manchester en-route back to Wells. Ski resorts Killington, Pico, Bromley and Stratton also offer summer alpine slides and scenic chair lifts.
There are number of walking trails on and around the property. Take time to enjoy the pleasure walks. To walk out into the open early in the morning; to look at the first glimmer of light; to view the greenery around you; and to breathe deeply of fresh air —air that is not polluted by the dust and smoke of the day—these are some of the greatest pleasures life offers us.
Maintaining a steady reservoir of energy -- physically, mentally, emotionally and even spiritually requires refueling it intermittently. Practice Meditation/Yoga at the soul-feeding views of Hidden Valley Farm.
